I was a little girl during those days, as well, and you are right. There were none of the tabloidesque news shows, including the morning shows, like we have today.

I gave up all network news programs, including the morning shows, during the 1992 campaign. They were so obvious in their preference for Clinton that I could barely keep a meal down.

Well, to be fair AND factual , Dave Garaway ( the TODAY SHOW ) had " pap" and " fluff " ; but then, that was NOT, strictly speaking, a " NEWS SHOW ", in the '50s. :-)

The " nightly news ", from the late '40s onwards, until around 1980, NEVER had " pap " / " fluff ". Biais ? Yes! that's always been in every form of news media, from the beginnings of our nation. But then, that's a different topic. LOL
