"The notion that a Polish captain can give orders to a German soldier will take some getting used to."

Get used to it!

Germany would have had more say in the matter had it co-operated with Pax Americana in settling Saddan's hash.

What a pity the Russians aren't playing - the notion of having them and the Germans under a Polish commander is a historical irony worthy of a Christopher Buckley satire. I'm certain the Poles aren't snickering at the German reaction here...yeah, not much...

The Poles don't have anything to worry about, until the French take the Poles side against Germany.

We all know how well that worked out the last time around....

If the Germans keep thinking the 'no military spending ever' route is the way to go, they will need to get used to taking orders from someone else.

Particularly if the US ever decides to stop protecting them.

I dont see what the fuss is about!

Australian troops work with uk troops regularly, command depends on the situation and noone makes a big deal of it.

The US and UK work together closely, delta force work in hereford, and the S.A.S train in he US.

The Germans have a history of despising Poles. "Polnische Wirtschaft" means "mess."

If the Germans don't like it they can just pull their men right out of the NATO forces.
I'm sure they will be happy to serve under Poles in the new EU armed forces.

Germans dismayed that Poles could command their troops

Germany didn't have a problem with commanding Poland in 1939.

The headline doesn't even say "will command", just "COULD command".

The Poles EARNED their right to command a sector. They stood beside us and they EARNED it.

Poland recognises that it has no experience in leading a multinational force.

No time better than the present to start getting that experience. I'm proud of our Polish friends.

The Germans also suspect that the US is again trying to drive a wedge between “old” and “new” Europe.

Hardly. It was "old" Europe that created the division.
