Let me get this straight:

The Germans bet against us and LOST.

A TRUE ally of ours (Poland) is trying to HELP Germany get a piece of the action anyway and that whining German bureaurat has the nerve to complain about taking orders from regional commander from another country!?!?!

That's gratitude for ya! Shut them out for a few months and when Schroeder and his cronies are ready to behave like adults we'll consider it.

Yeah but you see that's the problem. Those chumps over there don't want to accept the fact we are now in the 21st century NOT the 19th.

Hey Chiraq, Schroeder, Vlado...GROW UP ALREADY!

Yeah, and the boneheads also complained about W's "inexperience in foreign policy."

Well, now he has PLENTY of experience- and so will the Poles in their role with us.

Better a Pole than a Frenchman, I should think...

Why? That one has happened before, after all.

Rummy's not dividing. Old europe is no longer a power of any consequence and chiraq and schroeder are being babies by refusing to accept this fact and the other realities of the 21st century. Booo-Hooo!

I'm proud of our Polish friends.

Yep, same here. I'm really looking forward to watching our relationships with the eastern Europeans develop.

The Krauts are feeling some dismay
The Pole's day's here at last.

a12 posted: Obviously this is a deliberate act by Mr. Rummy to put those no Germans in their place. I love history.

Today while driving I hear a fellow who has known Rummy since college, the Navy and his first tour in the pentagon and now this tour talk about Rummy.

This is just the type of thing that Rummy does for payback.

Apparently there is massive payback coming for the generals who cried in their beers to retired Generals that there was not enough soldiers in Iraq to do the job. There will be a lot changes made with some generals in the Army and Marine corp who doubted that we could do the job. Rummy is very pleased with the Navy and Air Force top commanders and the soldiers/marines on the ground in Iraq and their immediate commanders. Tommy Franks is Rummy's man.

"The notion that a Polish captain can give orders to a German soldier will take some getting used to." Not really, the current German Army is only a light shadow of what the Wehrmacht was. There are no Guderians, Rommels or Mansteins commanding them.

I don't recall Russians serving under Germans or the other way around. May have occurred, may not have.

You have to count WWII where Nazis controled most of Eastern Russia for a time, then the Cold War where the Soviets definitely controled the Eastern part of Germany.

Neither of these 2 willing served the other.

Poland had to serve both arrogant powers, often.

Now in the spirit of internationalism, which in Europe is a higher calling than any religious devotion, Germany has to voluntarily serve under Polish command, which they earned simply by sending a few troops to help us! I love everything about this.

What a prime example for a biased and badly researched article. And this from the Times. *Sigh*

If the poor author would have spent some time doing research instead of ranting about the supposed unwill of Germans to be commanded by Poles, he could have EASILY found out that there is a German-Polish brigade, where Germans take orders from Poles and vice versa.

The real howler, historically speaking, would be having Russians under German command, or (heh heh heh) vice versa.

"White" Russians served in the wehrmacht as shock troops. Hard to believe but the choice of fighting against the Rodina or a German POW camp would have been tough, given that Russians POWs died in the millions.
