I am 25 years old, and a student of political science, history and sports (odd combo, I know).

I am mainly conservative, though I share SOME liberal views, on alcohol laws for instance :-). All of the big parties in Germany make me rather sick, since I hate the SPD, and am not really happy with the CDU.

My relationship to the USA:
I really like the US. I lived in Hemet, CA (near Orange Couny) for a year, going to high school there back in 1994/95. There are lots of things I like about the US, and some things I don´t like (same with Germany).
In general, I think, and I am really serious about it, despite the recent disharmony between our countries, there are few countries that are so similar like Germany and the US.

The war on Iraq:
I have always been for this war (yes, you can read it in postings by me even before the war started), though I was not absolutely happy with the reasons given by the US. I have defended going to war with Iraq when talking to others, and got some stick for doing so.) Let´s get real about this: To me, it is a rahter neo-imperialist war (no US troops in Rwanda, where about a million people died), the US goes to war, because it is good for her. And you know what - I am fine with this for two reasons:
1. It is not an entirely bad idea, to remove a ruthless dictator (though calling him a second Hitler is far fetched)!
2. If I was American, I would be quite happy with the government enforcing a policy which, as I think, is in US interests.

Germany and Iraq
Being German, I would prefer MY government to work MORE in German interest. Believe me, the policy made by our SPD government regarding Iraq was NOT in German interest. We don´t have much to lose in Iraq, and though it is true that some of our firms are or have been big in equipping Iraq, I have seen a graph in this very forum depicting that Germany´s part in arming Iraq in the last 10 years was smaller than 2 %. It was inherently stupid to act the way the Schroeder government has, since muslim terrorists threaten us as well.
Though the polls have shown support for the government and their positon towards Iraq, this is not out of Anti-Americanism, but of the result of a past-WW2 education, which maybe has been a little TOO pacifist. Germany does nowadays not only condemn fascist regimes and war of conquest, Germans do condem the very idea of war, which is not a good thing in my opinion.
