It is a private function. This fact continues to be overlooked in this matter.

And, is there really anything wrong with voluntary racial separation or simply put, "freedom of association"? Would you prefer a governmentally enforced coercive integration?

Visit any high-school cafeteria and you will see voluntary segregation in action, not only on the basis of race, but also along cultural and subcultural lines. The jocks, the nerds, the list goes on.

People like to be with those with whom they share common customs and interests, and, like it or not, even today customs and interests often break along racial lines.

The point is simply that individuals should have the choice to associate with whomever they want. And allowing people to associate freely as they please is being truly tolerant.

Been there, seen it....not pretty, it was called bussing.

I understand that there are natural divisions....but I guess I'm from a different cultural place. I've always mixed company freely, and would feel a loss at not having had so many different friends from all walks of life. I can't imagine having gone to school dances that were segregated, although I know this is part of America's history.
Look, don't start in using the Left's mantra "Don't Judge, be tolerant"....sorry, I'm judging this to be amazingly odd and a bit twisted in 2003.
