Report: Pentagon consultant spoke with investors weeks after getting top-secret briefing (Perle)

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Pentagon adviser Richard Perle briefed an investment seminar on ways to profit from conflicts in Iraq and North Korea just weeks after he received a top-secret government briefing on the crises in the two countries, the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday.

Perle, who until March was chairman of the Defense Policy Board, a group of outside advisers to the Pentagon, also serves on the board of several defense contractors. The revelation raises concerns about conflicts of interest.

The Times reported that Perle attended a Defense Intelligence Agency briefing in February and three weeks later participated in a Goldman Sachs conference call in which he advised investors in a talk titled "Implications of an Imminent War: Iraq Now. North Korea Next?"

Perle did not return phone calls or e-mails from the newspaper seeking comment.

One of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld's closest advisers, Perle was a vocal advocate of going to war against Iraq and publicly questioned the reliability of some longtime U.S. allies, including France and Saudi Arabia.

He resigned as chairman of the Defense Policy Board on March 27 after it was reported he had worked as a consultant to bankrupt telecommunications company Global Crossing Ltd., which was trying to get Pentagon approval to be sold to Asian investors.

In offering his resignation, Perle, 61, denied any wrongdoing and said he didn't want questions about his outside interests to be a distraction to Rumsfeld. He remained a member of the board.

"The guiding principle here is that you do not give advice in the Defense Policy Board on any particular matter in which you have an interest," he said at the time. "And I don't do that. I haven't done that."

Rep. John Conyers Jr., D-Mich., the ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, has asked the Pentagon's inspector general to investigate Perle's business activities and any conflicts they might pose for his membership.

Unable to lay a glove on the author of the successful campaigns in Afghanistan and Iraq, the left has been sniping ceaselessly at Rumsfeld's associates inside and outside the government. Richard is a brilliant strategist whose services were provided gratis to us. I seriously doubt that any advice he gave to the investors relates in any way, shape or form to any classified info he received except in the fervid imagination of the LA Times.

Boy, I'll bet he learned something at that briefing which was not already sliced and diced for weeks here on FR. NOT.

Nothing here but RAT droppings.

Indeed---Tell me when you read similar reports about Harold Brown or Tom Foley, both on the DPB, both given the same info and both who make their living advising the same kinds of clients on the same kinds of things. It's just that they never were out front in championing the defense policies of this Administration....and they are Democrats.

How do you know? And why are there so many people out there just itching to defend this guy every time some new damning detail comes out on him? He also had the FR cavalry coming to his rescue when we discovered he was helping the red Chinese get the transoceanic cables.

The man is probably a traitor and a war profiteer. He does not belong on the defense advisory panel.

Those of us who understand how things work in the U.S. realize what is happening here, just another RAT/media attempt to smear conservatives for behavior or suspected behavior which would pass without comment if done by a RAT.

No evidence of anything wrong has been surfaced about Perle but don't let that stop you from swallowing the bilge being spewed by the RAT-loving media and RAT politicians. You also need to develop awareness of Why this attempt is being made. Perle has become too successful in helping the President attack and defeat our enemies. If this is allowed to continue then he will be re-elected and the RAT-minded will be in even more trouble. Thus, his advisers must be destroyed at any price. And you are falling for it. LoL.

Private business deals with other nations are not "treason."
Do you even know what treason really is according to the Constitution?

Good observation. This article summarizes the problem with Richard Perle, Hutchison Whampoa, and Global Crossing.

There has been a large Chinese company (HW) trying to buy a big piece of the US telephone system (Global Crossing). Richard Perle signed up to help them do it, with a big bonus if he succeeded.

Were it to succeed, many of your domestic phone calls would be carried on Chinese-owned lines.

Not a good thing for national security. The Chinese recognize this. Try to do the same thing in reverse in China.

And Perle's resignation from the DPB chairmanship - once he was outed and the arrangement became public - shows that he even knew this deal didn't pass the smell test. If the deal was righteous, why resign?

Perle may have done many good things. This wasn't one of them.

BTW, Richard Perle is still a registered Democrat himself.

You seem to think there is some kind of organized conspiracy to dump Bush by attacking his minor advisors whom no one has ever heard of. Come on, give me a break. Evidently, Perle has his hand in a lot of things. He should be investigated.

If they want to bring him down, this isn't the way to do it.

If Bush wants to bring himself down, he can surround himself with more people like Perle.

It is exactly people like Perle who have created the Bush foreign policy. That has been so spectacularly successful that our enemies (esp. the RATS) are desperate to bring him down. This is why this silliness has surfaced. It will not work but that doesn't mean it won't be tried.

There was a post here a month ago which MAY allow you to understand the importance of this attack. freerepublic.com/focus.f-news/891914/posts read it and respond if you still have doubts.

Rumsfeld principle advisors Perle, and Wolfowitz are the RATS main target since everything just bounces off of Bush.
