Having been a huge WHO/Townshend fan for years, the facts reported thus far are a bitter pill. WON'T GET FOOLED AGAIN is simply the best political statement ever put to music. And he made a great political statement when he quite literally kicked Abbie Hoffman off the Woodstock stage in 69.
Townshend's past remarks regarding his bisexuality were a big disappointment, but he is a TRUE artist and eccentric so I have found it easy to hold him to different standards. However, a line MUST be drawn with child pornography. Even if his explanations are true, his career is severely damaged, and he knows it.
I love his music and his guitar playing sends chills down my spine. I ask myself if I would believe the same explanations coming from someone I hadn't admired. The answer leaves me Very Sad!!!!!!!!

I think Pete later said he "regretted" booting Abbie Hoffman's arse off the stage, and that he was so wound up in the performance that when AH started ranting, he reflexively went after him. I regret that he regrets.
From stuff I've read, I think the Who as a group were "fair and balanced" in their political outlooks. Pete was the artsy liberal but not a mindless hippie-type, Roger, the blue collar 'Labour' type, John the individual, subdued conservative, and Keith the looney anarchist. It really gave them a good mix.
Still pissed off at the Ox snorting his life away with a heart condition. I always wanted to see his band live and never got around to it. Only in the last couple of days could I put in any CDs of theirs.

(No truth to the rumor that Baghdad Bob is John Kerry's campaign manager)
