Just to point something out to everyone absolutely every President since Theodore Rosevelt has visited a US navy ship.

One reason is that Coolidge, Hoover, and Roosevelt used navy ships to vacation on. They would board the Augusta or the Arizona or whatever and head down to the Caribbean for a few weeks. They were like the Air Force One of the day, the President could get away and relax and the communications facility of the ship would let them stay in touch with Washington.
