Thanks for your lengthy reply. I've often wondered about how B.C. reacted to the news that emanated from the opened archives. Can you cite articles or books where he was really "hoist upon his own petard"? (PS: I did enjoy his book Korea's Place in the Sun, but I found the unequal treatment of North and South a bit ridiculous, but . . .)

I heard it from a guy studying E. Asian Studies a long time ago. He is either a Korean or a Korean American. I am not sure if Cummings said it in any of his publications or talks at some conference. I cannot help you on this matter, unfortunately. But apparently he is no longer advancing his one-time pet theory of wholly blaming S. Korea for the Korean War.
