WASHINGTON-It may be sheer coincidence, but the discipline that has marked the Republican Party under the command of George Bush has broken down repeatedly in the last three weeks-and the president seems unable to restore order.
House and Senate GOP leaders sniped at each other over their disagreement on the size of the new Bush tax cuts. Newt Gingrich took a hard shot at Colin Powell's State Department and, in turn, was rebuked by many other conservatives. Sen. Rick Santorum stirred up a bit of controversy with his comments on homosexuality, and there was grumbling from the right flank about the president's push for a global anti-AIDS campaign.

As this article's origin is the Washington Post, I'm pinging AM to magic-wand it into an excerpt (per FR's legal settlement).

It is kind of nice having a party that thinks for itself. Not the BORG collective like the RATs. But when it comes too tax cuts. If your Republican you should be for them. Hey thats why we have the party in the first place.

Now that Iraq is winding down, it may be time for the President to call the Republican leadership onto the carpet and read them the riot act. They need to get their feces together, they need to back the President's agenda and they need to break that Rat filibuster and get Mr. Estrada confirmed, and they need to do it by yesterday!

You have really believe that it is the intent of this government via these bought & paid civil servants to bring the nation a conservative agenda? I ain't buying it.

Especially not when conservatives form a circular firing squad.

...and there was grumbling from the right flank about the president's push for a global anti-AIDS campaign...Can't blame them for grumbling. I think Bush is doing a great job, but 15+ billion to Africa for aids relief is an outrage.

They need to get their feces together, This really doesn't have the same ring as the original. Try "act"

Our ME Legislature Minority Leader (Senate, I think - was a Majority Leader breifly once for half a session when the Senate was 50-50) once summed it up pretty well, when he equated the leadership of a Republican Caucus with attempting to drive a herd of cats.
I suspect that the old NRC Elephant is split right down the middle about the same as it is up here in Maine, near as I can figure.
And if you ever wish to discover where that potentially fatal bifurcation starts, just put on your rubber gloves, hold you nose, and lift up the beastie's tail;
There beneath, I strongly suspect, thou shalt find abortion.

I was trying to find a polite way to say they need to get their "shit" together.
