I am ashamed of the responses that a few FReepers have made about this issue. I fought with Blacks and Hispanics in Viet Nam and I would rather have them in my home than the bigots on this website. You people have no problem with refusing admittance of a fellow graduate because of their skin color? Sheeessss...a hundred and thirty five years have passed since the end of the Civil War and you people still discriminate people because of their race. Why in the world are we defending a white prom? It's a startling anachronism and I'm amazed we're still engaged in this kind of segregation. It's like we've fallen through a time warp and are defending "separate but equal" all over again. O'Reilly has his head on straight and is absolutely correct in chewing Perdue out on this one.

The FACT is, by dictate, a group of white kids in Albany, Georgia decided to have an all-white prom.

Both O'Reilly programs said, rather obscurely, that the private prom was just that, a private affair - not pubilcly funded, etc.

But if you long-blinked you missed that part, mostly you heard that it was a school event by inference or why did the school principal & teachers or GA Govenor allow this travesty.....

Alright, I'm probably gonna get all kinds of flack for saying this, but I really don't care. There are times when black people want to be with other black people and white people want to be with other white people. It is not necessarily exclusionary. Blacks have been having their own private proms for many years. There can be several reasons for this. One, when it comes to dances, blacks and white often do not enjoy the same style of music. Second, and I realize this is a biggie for some people; at dances there is more intimate contact between members of the opposite sex and MANY people, black and white, do not want have those kinds of relationships with members of another race. It might be a family thing or it might be a personal thing, but either way, it doesn't make you a racist.

Speaking personally, there is a couple that I work with who are also relatively close neighbors. They are black. I like them both and have no problems whatsoever with socializing with them. They bug me about going out with them to a club dancing. I also have no problem telling them that there are no white men at the clubs they go to and that is why I wouldn't want to go. They joke about it, but they are not in the least offended by it. Some people are just professional offendees and I'm getting pretty sick of hearing from them.

I do not support the prom, or any of the other race issues used in this country.

On the other hand Oreilly is beginning to sound like a pompous p. ant that believes that he has the authority to call a Governor on the carpet because the Governor has not done what he demands. Like blackmail and I don't like either side using it for any reason.

Why would anyone want to go to a prom with people like this and why didn't Oreilly go after them for their stupidity.

No it's just his attempt to keep his ratings up. O'Reilly is becoming more a joke everyday and I predict he will soon go over the line and he'll be the story not others.
