I have done nothing and for you to try to implicate me in this is nuts. What I'm pointing out is your posts that have showcased acute anti-Southern bias are telling only a fraction of the story.

You are after the Other. The other is a racist, the other is a white Southerner and you and your region are innocent. What's in your closest? What is this ostentatious show of public morality (though you have not illustrated that your life is as integrated at the kids that went to that all-white prom)designed to conceal? A school with a 55% Afr. Amer. majority is pretty darn integrated.

I link Mr. O'Reilly and you to the story of Sen. Byrd who loves the Klan more than he loves our Great Republic. Seems
the Senator is "outraged" about Bush's landing on the Lincoln, of course he is a terrible pork-barrel spender and a terrible racist man, but he yells so loud and is so damn adamant.

You never proved your integration bona fides to me. So you don't want to talk to me anymore? You have slithered to the next witch-hunt? Somehow I think I'll manage to soldier on without you in my life!

Thank you for your response, and your description of your childhood in Georgia is consistent with a couple of stereotypes- the lyrical beauty of the Southern dialect, and the fact that Southerners are, typically, better story-tellers and writers than everybody else.

Do you know what prejudice is? Its prejudging before you have facts. Duh? "I would almost bet" sounds like you might be a bit prejudiced?

Or, perhaps I've seen enough of this PC BS to have a good hunch of why the kids did what they did. Or do you prefer to prejudge the white kids?

He could speak out against it but he doesnt want to offend the good ole boys who elected him.

Frankly, I doubt if a bunch of high school students elected Georgia's governor. Are you prejudging the voters of Georgia?

Dont tell me that the heritage of rural whites in Georgia is racism. I doubt it very much. But some of you seem only too keen on giving these group of white trash a pass.

Your prejudice is showing.

Would you say it was a governors job to speak out against the Klan marching in the streets of Atlanta on Martin Luther King day? The governor is an official elected to represent all the people.

Does a PRIVATE prom, organized by high school students rise to the level of the Klan marching through Atlanta? I don't think so.

Besides, the governor was elected to, among other things, uphold the constitution of the United States which mentions something about the freedom of association. These kids have as much right to invite whomever they choose to their PRIVATE event as you and I have to invite whomever we choose to our own party.

The Governor has much more important things to do with his time than scold a bunch of high school students on their choice of guests at a private event.

What's the matter? Cant you read either. I just said above I didnt think it was the heritage of rural whites in Georgia to be racists. I always thought it was a tiny minority but given some of the reaction on this thread from incensed Georgians I may have been wrong. Maybe its not just a handful of kids.

And what did these kids have to do but show up where they were told to attend school? Whoopy ti-do, I'm just overwhelmed with their commitment to equal rights.

I link Mr. O'Reilly and you to the story of Sen. Byrd who loves the Klan more than he loves our Great Republic.

This gets more bizzare by the minute. What does that old fart have to do with this thread. That is unless you want to adopt him as Grand Marshall of your prom.

You never proved your integration bona fides to me. So you don't want to talk to me anymore?

What do I have to do prove that Im disgusted with your attitude, get down and kiss your ugly ass. You asked what my neighborhood was like and what my school system was like and I told you. If your memory is that bad that you cant remember, maybe you should be treated for Alzheimers. This thread isnt that long. Look it up GRand Wizzard. Maybe your bud Byrd can give you some pointers.

"Do you? What did you tell your children?"

Sorry to take so long getting back. Had to get to bed last night.

I absolutely believe that a parent has the right to teach their children that. We're not talking about unfairness in labor practices or preventing them access to the same goods and services, opportunities or education as anybody else. We're talking about personal beliefs and families. Not everybody believes that inter-racial marriage is healthy or right. They have a right to believe that as long as that belief doesn't carry over to unlawful discrimination based on race.

As far as what I taught my child, I said that it wasn't my personal preference but that I was much more concerned about a partner being a good and decent and loving person with a comittment to God....however....I also believe strongly in respecting your elders and my father is adamantly opposed to black/white race-mixing and had made it clear in no uncertain terms that any child or grandchild of his who did such a thing would be disowned. (I've never made a secret of having Archie Bunker for a dad). I do not agree with him, but I personally would not go against his wishes because he does believe so strongly and because I respect him. I encouraged my daughter to always keep that in mind as well.

For what it's worth, one of my Godchildren has mixed parents. It doesn't make any difference whatsoever to me but I do respect the right of others to believe differently and certainly do not think that it is an unpardonable sin. Personally, I am much more comfortable being around people who freely say what's on their mind, even if it is offensive, within reason and appropriateness of setting. At least they're being genuine, which is a quality I value highly in others. People who are slaves to the PC god, are phonies at best and tyrants at worst and I have have no use for either.

Agree with you on virtually all. Your dad was lucky. Many kids might have been rebelliousness enough to have dated inter-racially just because dad said not to.

Mainly on Tobacco and Alcohol, I believe. Also the State House did not go along with Perdue's initial tax rates and passed a budget bill with smaller increases.

But a tax increase is a tax increase, especially when the State Government is a haven for patronage jobs.

The students then agreed to have two seperate proms, one that suited the tastes of most of the white kids, and one that suited the tastes of most of the black kids. Any student could attend either, or both.

Sounds like my Senior Prom many moons ago. Same facility, the black students congregated in one room with the music we wanted while the white students were in another room with the music they preferred. Some black and white students mixed and chatted in the hallway, and I recall getting a compliment and a hug from a white classmate, though we were in separate rooms. Nobody had a cow over it, though neither room was advertised as the "black" room or the "white room."
