Amazing... I know that my own (eek) Democratic/ war opposing senator-in-tennis-shoes Murray arrived onboard the Lincoln today as it pulled into Everett. As did our Democratic Governor Locke (BTW, the same governor who gave the democratic rebuttle to the Pres. State of the Union Address)

I wonder if Sen. Byrd will notice this???
I would guess not.

"I am loath to think of an aircraft carrier being used as an advertising backdrop for a presidential political slogan..."

Funny, I don't remember Sen. Byrd's righteous anger being aroused when his fellow Democrats turned Paul Wellstone's funeral into a really bad-taste political rally last year.

BTW, let's all never forget that this is the same Sen. Byrd who appeared on Sunday with Cokie Roberts and Sam Donaldson just before the impeachment vote and stated that, although he believed that Clinton was guilty of perjury and obstruction of justice and that these offenses warranted removal from office, he would vote not guilty because Slimey Bill's popularity rating was so high at the time. As far as I'm concerned, Robert Byrd has no business judging the motives of anyone else, anywhere or anytime...

``I am loath to think of an aircraft carrier being used as an advertising backdrop for a presidential political slogan, and yet that is what I saw,''

Too bad Bobby. Those are our jets now.

Sen. "Pork Barrel" Byrd criticizing GWB. Ha, ha! "Mr. KKK" is THE poster child for term limits.

FYI, this is the same @$$wipe that carries a copy of the Constitution in his pocket so that when he's stopped [frequently] by the local police for his erratic driving, he can't be cited or arrested.

It's time "Shakes the Clown" be put out to pasture...or in a corner to drool.

Byrd contrasted the speech with the ``simple dignity'' of Lincoln's Gettysburg Address during the Civil War

Big deal, Senator Byrd---so you remember Lincoln's speech. I'd be impressed if you still had the picture of you and Mr. Lincoln.

What I loved (most) about the President's landing on the carrier was the confidence he showed in the pilots and crew.

The dimms just don't get what leadership is all about.

And exactly how much military experience does this goober have???

Oh, what I really meant to say was "How much US military experience does this goober have." not "How much KKK military experience does this goober have."

I am loath to think of so august a body as the United States Senate as the repository for a bitter, venal, hypocritical former {maybe} Klansman, but, alas, that is what I am seeing.

From Citizens Against Govt. Waste website, the fiscal 2003 Transportation Appropriations Bill:

$51,950,000 added by the Senate for projects in the state of then-Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.), including: $10,000,000 for Route 9 in Jefferson and Berkeley counties; $9,000,000 for the Coalfields Expressway in McDowell County; $4,500,000 for the Canvas Bridge in Nicholas County; $4,000,000 for statewide buses and bus facilities; $1,000,000 for statewide job access and reverse commute grants; and $950,000 for the Charleston Renaissance Gateway Project.

Throw in another 27.4M for Barb (I am Outraged!) Mikulski (MD), 27.35M for Patrick Kennedy (MA), and 24.5M for Patrick Leahy (VT): That's nearly 5% of the entire package for the 41st, 42nd, 44th and 45th largest states in the country!

Shoot, we got counties bigger than those states...
