Hello everyone:
Since DiverDave has not been able to attend our rallies on both April 26th and May 3rd, I thought I would let everyone know how things went.
April 26th rally was a beautiful day. It was warm and sunny. We had the corner decorated with all our flags, yellow ribbons on stands, patriotic pinwheels and our God Bless America blanket (what a beautiful item this is). We only had about 23 participants on this day. They displayed signs showing pictures of their loved ones in Iraq. The horns were honking in support and we gave out red, white and blue ribbons this week. One of our participants made a very strong and true statement to passing motorists, "They are still there and some are still dying for our freedom". It was unique, while at the rally, two of our particants got phone calls from their loved one in Iraq. To see the smiles on their faces knowing that their loved one is safe and secure made us all so very happy.
At our rally this last Saturday, May 3rd, we only had a total of 7 participants. We did not put out as much decorations as normal due to the weather. We did have our flags and yellow ribbons out. We got some pretty heavy rain while out there - but we all believe that if our men and women can suffer the weather in Iraq for days on end, we could suffer a few hours supporting them. We had lots of support from the passing motorists and some comments of astonishment that we were out there in this weather, but the people supported our efforts.
The Modesto Support Our Troops Committee has made a committment to continue with these rallies until our troops all come home. We ask that any and all members of FreeRepublic that live in the Modesto area, please join us at the rallies. We hold them every Saturday from 11 to 2 at the corner of Sisk and Standiford (in front of Vintage Fair Mall).
Also, this coming Thursday will be a Family Support Group meeting at the VFW Hall in Modesto. These have been extremely helpful for those that have attended.
Well - I will close for now till next time. Hope to see you all at the rallies.
God Bless our Troops and God Bless America.
Sincerely
LarryA
