Rules: "It is also not usually a very good idea to let too many people know that you carry a gun. This fact should be limited to your immediate family and select friends who are "gun people" also. Please, for your sake and the sake of others around you - be discreet! "
Absolutely! That you carry a gun carries a stigma, by all means, hide the fact, as would a herpes victim of that fact! Don't let it get around that you do or society might begin to see it as acceptable in the same way that teenage pregnancy has become more accepted. /sarcasm
If anyone sees me with a gun poking out of my jacket, he will not call the police because I'm such a lovable individual. There may be curiosity, but no one would feel threatened with me present and armed. Besides, I have a CCP so anyone who doesn't like it can pound salt.

I am very suspicious of these rules, especially since they come unattributed.
The other "rule" -run first, fight later -is part of the doctrine known as "the duty to retreat". It puts you at a grave psychological and tactical disadvantage and should not be tolerated at any level.
The good news- when you are surrounded by gungrabbers and surrogate gungrabbers (the gunowners who believe in gun control crowd) you can fire in any direction and hit a hostile target.
Best regards,
