PT placemarker. This theory was discussed at length on one of the cable channels about a week ago. It will probably be rerun many times.
Among the virtues of the theory is its explanation of the relative slowness of the extinction -- spanning 100,000 years or more -- too long a period to be explained by an asteroid impact. It also explains why the extinction involved the oceans as well as the land.
