It is taken a long time in the U.S. with regard to racial prejudice, especially in the South. Lots of Southerners pay public lip service to the civil rights movement (oh, hell--who am I kidding?--to the very reults of the Civil War) and teach racial hatred in their homes. You have to start somewhere and let the poison work its way out over generations.

I see your point, but, the Southerners got most of the military portion of their "resistance" out of their system during the Civil War. Arabs have been annihilated by modern Western armies for the better part of century, and yet, here we sit today, discussing the situation.

The UN/EU and even the US are all partly to blame for this. The UN for obvious reasons, not the least of which is the distribution of palestinian textbooks chock full of anti-semitism. The EU for their view (tacit approval) of terrorism being a legitmate form of resistance. Finally, some blame should go to the US for legitimizing Arafat as a credible leader (thanks BJ!) and "urging restraint" upon Israel in situations America itself would never show restraint.
