Notice all other aircraft were taken off the flight deck. There's a reason the C-130 is not used to supply carriers.

Reminiscent of Jimmy Doolittle's raid.
But his bombers never landed on the carriers.

The Air Force tested a system that have allowed a C-130 to land or take off in 100 meters. They considered using it during the Iranian hostage rescue attempt. The test plane crashed during testing when the retro-rockets were started too soon.

A winged elephant alights on a park bench, then flies off.
Surprisingly graceful.
The footprint of the Hercules is too big for carrier usage, but this makes for a nice emegency capability due to the awesome (by Navy standards) cargo capacity of the venerable Hercules.

Pretty awesome feat. I wonder what (if any) the load was? That's one way to quickly re-stock a carrier!

Pssst. It's a fake photo.

Notice all other aircraft were taken off the flight deck.A common occurrence during carrier quals of any aircraft. Allows unimpeded views for the multiple cameras in use.

Question: Is this a photo of a C-17 landing or taking off?

Where did all the dust come from? The landing is on the Kennedy, just before the CO was removed for poor housekeeping.

It's a fake photo of a C-17 landing on the deck of a LHA or LHD.

Up until two years ago, I was working with one of the test engineers that worked on that carrier landing suitability study.
