The Russians did most of the Hitler-whippin. Not us. And in my opinion the Brits did at least as much as we did. Probably more.

No, that would be the Russian WINTER, an entirely different thing than the Russians themselves (no slouches themselves, to be sure). Nobody wins against the Russian winter, and all do well to remember that. Had not Hitler chosen to turn on Stalin, he might have remained in power. That was NOT a good choice...

And while the Brits bravely battled Hitler long before we entered the war, the war against the third Reich would not have been won if America had not joined the fight. The British Bulldog held the fort, but it was the Yank who entered Europe and defeated Hitler.

It wasn't just Hitler.

We were fighting Japan and Italy too. The Russians had more fighting early because they were in it earlier. So were the British.

According to Cornelius Ryan who wrote several accounts of the war, Hitler devoted most of his resources to the West after D-day. He always underestimated Russian strength.

I would also suggest that our air campaign along with the British did as much as anything to winning the war. We also suffered very heavy casualties in the air war.

Just remember, it was the Brits who did will-nilly nighttime bombing runs while the Americans who took on the deadly, punishing, but more effective daytime bombing.

With that said, I don't think that we need to let a snotty newspaper reporter cause us to turn on the Brits.

I beg to differ. WE WON Africa. WE Won Italy. WE had 127,000 troops hit the beaches on DDAY. WE had 3,000,000 in England. Monte was in charge at the initial landings. Once the beachhead was secured control was turned over To SHEAF and IKE. Because as Churchill said and Monte could not argue. The Americans are commiting far more manpower and will take far more loses. It is only fitting that they be commanded by Americans. We took France, Belgium. And Germany. We let Russia take Berlin. We were ahead of them, we stopped and waited until the Russians did take Berlin.

It was fitting we felt that Russia be allowed to because of the people they had lost. It was Politics. We sat and waited, and waited. The German feeling at the time was we should move and hurry to get to Berlin first. We decided not to do so. WE destroyed the 15th, the 7th Armies and more. We destroyed PanzerGruppe one after the other.

The only thing Russia has was manpower to use as cannon fodder which Stalin was more than happy to use. And I might add, it was not the communist state for which they fought. Stalin pushed Mother Russia, and put communism in the background. So much for the utopia of a gov. that no one would fight for without being shot.

Umm...No.

When you look at what we did in the Pacific versus the Brits we did a whole lot more. The same can be said of the air war in Europe where we lost 40,000 guys in a year and even all the major ground fighting.

Without America, the Brits and the Russians would have been whipped by the Germans.

It was the Russians who allowed Hitler to start the war in the first place, when the jointly agreed to take over Poland.
