I don't think it's odd either in fact I try not to use the term anti-semite myself since I question the accuracy and instead try to use the term anti-jewish but since anti-semite has usurped that term, what I do matters little except to me.

Mr. Mojo, the anti-war demonstrations in America prior to our entry in WW2 was led by the Communist Part of the USA, as ordered by Stalin. There were the Communist party agents, the fellow-travelers, Stalin's "useful idiots," and a few Americans who were deceived by the others.
All of the anti-war people are merely against war between armed forces; they prefer war against unarmed citizens.

"Yet another take on the "neocon" question. I have to admit that I'm confused as hell."
The term neocon was coined in the late '70s/early '80s to describe the Scoop Jackson Democrats that were moving into the Republican party -- strong on defense, socially conservative, yet still (at that time) pro-Union, and blue-collar. They were new (neo) conservatives (cons). A lot of them (like Wolfewitz) -- albeit not most -- were Jewish. Over the last five years the term has been twisted, particularly by paleocons, but also recently by the neocommunist wing of the Democrat's Party to mean a Jewish conservative.
Since both groups tend to be anti-Semitic (if you don't like that term, then Judenhasser or Jew haters) this was a convenient way to denigrate the strand of conservatism that favors international activism.
Of Bush,Cheney,Rice,Rumsfield and Powell the only one that could be considered a true neocon is Powell. The rest have always been conservatives, while Powell started as a Democrat and moved to the Republican column primarily because of the Democrat's total abdication of responsibility in defense and foreign relations. Like most *true* neocons, Powell tends towards a more liberal position on a lot of domestic issues.
Just goes to show how liberals (and Paleocons, for that matter) can always screw up a legitimate political term (liberal for example) when they need to obfusticate matters.

My wife and I went to Haifa, Jerusalem, and Bethlehem via Cyprus for a Holyland tour. 12 hours with a lot of Russian, German, and British tourists on five buses. We were the only Americans and had a great experience.
Although we are not very religious, it was humbling to stand near the birth place of Christ.

So that would make President Reagan Neo-Com Extraordinaire! My family (myself included at the time) were Kennedy Democrats aka "Cold War Liberals." But I suppose if JFK was still around now making the same speeches that he made as prez, he would be called a dangerous right-wing extremist.

La Gloria Cubana ....a fine cigar. I usually smoke Partagas #10, Fuente 8-5-8, and Jamaican Macanudos (when I can find them).
Thanks for the movie (Sonneschein) recommendation in one of your other posts. I'll make a point to rent it.

U.S. Rep. James Moran, a Democrat from Virginia, recently complained: "If it were not for the strong support of the Jewish community for this war with Iraq, we would not be doing this."
I bet he doesn't complain that the same Jewish community
votes Democrat election after election. He should think of
it as servicing his constituency.

See post #91. I am abject. (Must be my French blood coming out). OK, you probably heard the one about the American on the plane- He's sitting on the aisle by two Arabs, and twice offers to get them a beer, and they both spit in his shoes while he is gone. Punchline? After many other comments "this spitting in shoes, and p***ing in beer must stop. Our countries must get along.

"So that would make President Reagan Neo-Com Extraordinaire!"
I guess it would in a sense -- but the true neocons were the ones that moved to the Republicans in the 1970s and '80s. Reagan had changed by the late '50s. As in so much else in his life, he was 20 years ahead of the curve.
" suppose if JFK was still around now making the same speeches that he made as prez, he would be called a dangerous right-wing extremist."
Had JFK lived I suspect he *would* have joined the neocon movement in the 1970s. Certainly Scoop Jackson was closely aligned with Kennedy's foreign policy. Additionally one of JFK's closest friends in DC was . . . Richard Nixon!
However, had Kennedy lived, then Johnson would not have been President during the flawed build-up of the Vietnam war, McGovern would likely not have gotten a springboard to run for President in 1972 and the Democratic Party would not have sold its soul to the neocoms shortly thereafter.

When I was growing up, it was a well known fact in the world that if you killed an American, the entire country would land on you with both feet. As a result, Americans could travel anywhere in the world and be perfectly safe. That stopped when Carter entered the Whitehouse.
