No surprise to me. Was in on the reasonable approach taken back in the late 80's on the Kalifornia assault weapons ban.

We went to Sacramento numerous times and explained our objections. The idiocy of the leftests, left me forever soured on politics. In 1990 I got out of Kalifornia before the ban took effect, never looked back.

There should be outrage among most Californians, but there probably won't be. You would think that even people who hate guns and want to ban all of them would consider it a priority to keep violent felons in prison rather than releasing them for lack of funds. You would think you would do ANYTHING before letting violent criminals roam free. You would think that way, IF you took your job seriously, and if you were really concerned about the public's welfare. So why this disconnect from reality? Above all else the left is at war with the idea that one's actions have consequences. They see regulation, laden with "good intentions," as a buffer that will somehow protect everyone from everyone else. California also has many people who are part of the entertainment, corporate or political elite. Many of these people are fantastically wealthy, and are thus cushioned from the ill-effects of the legislature not doing its job. They know their armored limousines are not going to be attacked by an army of angry citizens with .50 caliber rifles. They don't have to worry about being behind the counter of a convenience store and getting shot by a crack addict who is enraged that you only have $20 cash. So I think the politicians and entertainment elites, insulated from the chaos they help to encourage, reinforce each other in their silliness. And average citizens, who really should be angry enough to take up arms, are either so demoralized by struggling to get by or else they are in denial, hoping that the slogans that pass for thought and the play-acting that passes for leadership will somehow get them through.
