Here's a possible solution for those who've received a message similar to "Your browser did not accept our Focus cookie" while attempting to log in. Received this the other day from someone who solved the problem (at least solved it in his case):
Hello Jim,I just wanted to let you know that I did solve the login/cookie problem. Somehow, FreeRepublic.com got added to IE's internal list of "Restricted Zone" Web sites on my computer. So even though my IE Privacy Settings were set to accept the FreeRepublic.com cookies, IE was still rejecting them (it appears that Zone settings take precedence over Privacy settings).
Incidentally, IE's "Restricted Zones" are not a feature I have ever used before which is why I did not discover this earlier. I don't know how FreeRepublic.com got into my "Restricted Zone" (I certainly didn't set it intentionally, but I noticed there is a selection on the drop-down tools list that I suppose I could have accidentally hit at some time that day). In any case, as soon as I removed FreeRepublic.com from the "Restricted Zones", the cookie was accepted and the login worked fine.
Just thought I'd pass on the info for your FAQs or if someone else has a similar problem in the future.
Thanks,
Michael
Apparently the above worked for this FReeper. There can be other reasons your browser does not accept our cookies. Make sure your browser is set to receive cookies. Make sure your firewall or cookie blocking or ad blocking software is set to accept our cookies. Make sure your system date is set correctly. Make sure you are using the correct URL for our login link:
http://www.freerepublic.com/perl/login
(you may need to adjust your bookmark if not)
Corrupted cookies or cookie file. If you have existing freerepublic.com cookies on your computer and nothing else works, you might try deleting them. Also, you may need to clear your memory and disk cache and reboot.
There could be other reasons, but I do not know what they are. The above steps have helped others get logged in. I'm not a technical whiz and have no idea what the "Restricted Zone" is or how to get by your firewalls, so if others want to chime in with suggestions, please do.

However, I have bookmarked this thread...for the next time.
Sorry. Couldn't resist.
HELP! I'm imprisoned in a Chinese fortune cookie company!
Most of the time you'll see a small globe and the word "Internet" which is the medium zone. If the domain was accidentally added to the restricted list you'll see a red circle with a white minus and the words "Restricted Sites". Likewise, if the site's in the trusted list, you'll see a green circle with a white checkmark and the phrase "Trusted Sites"
