No it isn't. Gauranteed, in the course of the school year, their is considerable tension between whites and blacks at this school. Why should the whites want to party with those with whom they are tense? Calling people bigotted isn't going to change human nature.

And pretending that people aren't bigoted isn't going to change the fact that they are bigoted.

The parents aren't doing their children any favors in preparing them for adulthood by encouraging, supporting, or condoning a "whites only" prom. They are doing them a great disservice, as a matter of fact.

I went to a school, Amityville, NY. 50/50 whites to blacks at the time.....Trust me, the guys and gals who did not want to associate with those not white were not making this decison because as you say it "Why should the whites want to party with those with whom they are tense" (that is really lame, besides the fact what about black people makes them tense?)...In any event, I saw it first hand everyday and it happened on both sides. Make excuses, close your eyes...I call it what it is...BIGOTS!
