I like the Italians I've known from there...very much....and the Rockaway fellas too. I like Italian Brooklyn...my kinda Yankees...straight talking and gregarious.

I was simply using those places as a reference to the "stereotypical prejudicial" declaration that only Southerners can be white on black racists..

I'm sorry.

We can move on to Crowne Heights and discuss a far more prevalent form of racism to be found today in the brave New America just to be fair.

No personal offense was taken wardaddy. It was an awful shameful incident that should never have happened. The politicians, particularly Koch had a field day with it though.

I like the Italians from there too. Most lived on the "new" side, which we old-siders called Rockwood Park. The Jewish people lived mostly in the part that we called Lindenwood.

I went to High School in Rockaway, which was predominantly Irish and Black. Truthfully, Queens is such a mishmash of people from so many races and cultures it is a very interesting place to live.

I wouldn't say that the white people are the only ones who staked out their turf and tried to keep others from their neighborhoods though.

I've seen enough hatred from all sides when riding the subways every day and even just trying to shop. Getting lost in any neighborhood you didn't know could be scary when I was growing up there.
