We have freedom of speech here, so you can start whatever TV station you want, especially a satellite or cable-based one. I wonder why nobody's done this. You could get in on the ground floor. Shoot, you might make millions of dollars.

Well, they have every right to do that by freedom of association. On the same note, others have the same freedom not to associate with jerks like that.

No it isn't. Gauranteed, in the course of the school year, their is considerable tension between whites and blacks at this school. Why should the whites want to party with those with whom they are tense? Calling people bigotted isn't going to change human nature.

It is not being sold as a separate party for "people of a certain culture." It is sold as a separate party for "whites." The implication (which you are seemingly supporting) is that all whites have the same culture and all blacks have the same culture.

I reject that notion. There are plenty of whites with cultures that I would have nothing to do with and plenty of blacks with the same culture I have.

Think back about a week ago when the RATS presidential candidates attended the all black mayor conference, did anyone hear the whites crying about it? Now what makes this event so special, huh?

Even after 40 years of integration something ugly is boiling under the surface at our public schools. Hostility between blacks and whites, particularly at the public junior and high school levels, is real and intense.

Segregating the prom won't help matters but it proves my point.

But surely you admit that it would have been just as possible that someone from your father's family would have objected to him dating a white girl? Your original post seemed to imply that only a white family would object to the inter-racial marriage.

While that might have been history...it is no longer the case. There are lots of incidents of self segregation, even currently, but the outrage is only when it is caucasians doing it. I am just wondering, with almost 500 people in the class, surely there are some hispanic and asian students, are they allowed? I still think the best reply to this is to go to the segregated prom as an interracial couple.

no generalization can be held as true for all individual scenarios, but a little chat with Japanese families, Jewish families, Vietnamese families... oh, and BLACK families would cure that misguided notion.
