Mob Boss gunned down because he is gay

May 1, 2003 -- A Mafia turncoat told a stunned courtroom yesterday how he gunned down his mob boss - because he was gay. Former DeCavalcante soldier Anthony Capo said the New Jersey-based family - often described as the real-life "Sopranos" - feared they would be the laughing stock of the New York underworld if their acting boss, John "Johnny Boy" D'Amato was outted.

More likely this was either a move designed to benefit the killers financially OR it was done for fear that his lifestyle would endanger other mafia leaders.

Same thing happens to connected mobsters who get strung out on drugs. The second it's decided they are a security threat, everyone starts to think: "What could he tell the cops about me if he were comprimised?"

Message to all worthless, stupid, idiot mobsters (in other words, all of them) Don't divorce your wife (cheating is okay though, but it has to be low key) Don't get strung out on drugs and Don't engage in activities that can leave you open to blackmail.

If you do, you are going to end up taking a dirt nap.

As Hyman Roth put it in The Godfather Part II, this is the business they chose. The mob is a bunch of murdering thugs, and one of them just killed another. And I have the distinct feeling that sodomy is going to be well down the list of sins that John D'Amato is accounting for right now. So, no, you'll have to excuse me if I'm not greatly sorry to hear about his untimely death. Removing mobsters from the face of the earth is a good thing, the more the merrier. It's only unfortunate that Johnny Boy didn't have the chance to shoot back and take a couple of them with him.

Earlier, Capo had described DeCavalcante leaders always giving two kisses. […] "Guys from New York kiss once, guys from New Jersey kiss twice," Capo explained.

Greybirds comments bear no relation to the truth on ANY Mob thread I have seen in the entire time I have been on FR.

Every, single one of them, regardless of anything, begins and ends with FReepers making bad jokes about the names, old movie quotes, mob lore.. etc. Any slight that can be imagined comes out on these threads. You know the routine, I am sure you have seen it a dozen times.

This one is right on par with all the others. He's just mad because this one happens to involve a gay mobster.

What a piece of s**t. First, the editor totally doesn't get New York. The headlines are base, especially today's, "Fairy Godmother," about a gay gangster. The art direction sucks, the reporting is clumsy, the editorials are rabid, and Page Six is amateur at best. Linda Stasi is the only redeeming part.

If you want some intolerant comments about the deceased Mob Boss, check the story out
with some gay folks...a fair number of them don't like bisexuals.
I've even heard one gay talk show host in Los Angeles suggest that bisexuals
are mental cases.

Myself, I can't wonder if there wasn't more to this story...maybe concern that
this Mob Boss might be "compromised" with his activities...or might
pick up something like HIV/AIDS, give it to some gal who was sleeping with
a number of mob types.

The gay-bashing angle in the murder is apparent...but I suspect there may have
been additional motivations.
"It was nothing personal. It was just business" might cover some of the reasons he got wacked.
