Think of other peoples when their leaders are out amongst them, the jumping up and down, the screaming and wild waving and near hysteria. I know this is the military but I don't think it's just that, but look how we are. People stand quietly, patiently, but with big smiles. We as a culture are really much more restrained than some other cultures, I think. I don't know about that. I think it's because Americans are sensitive to the presence of the Secret Service, and therefore are more careful about appearing too hysterical. When the Pope comes to visit or a pop star makes a public appearance you see plenty of hysteria in American crowds.

Maybe it depends on the crowd. Maybe it is a military thing.
