Well, remember the guy in Kuwait who threw the grenade in an officer's tent and killed two of our best and brightest? We can't forget that there are people who practice islam in the military. The SS is doing their job. There's been tight security as long as I can remember - even when Dubya was campaigning. It's nothing new. They have kewl leather bomber jackets, don't you agree?

Why are the SS guarding him like he was in a DNC meeting? These guys love him and not one of them would harm him. It's for public consumption. They know they are on national (actually worldwide) TV and they must be seen as aggressively protecting the president. A would-be assassin would figure that if they have this much security on the president aboard a friendly Navy carrier, just imagine how it would be out in the real world.
