nominated for the medal of honor, received the navy cross, two silver stars, purple heart, fifteen air medals, and thirty-two other awards. Just your average pilot. :-)

Also the first US "all missile" ace, and the only pilot to shoot down three MiGs in one day during the Vietnam War. I'm not sure if any of the Korean War MiG killers got three in a single day or not, though I'd hardly be surprised if they had. But no names spring immediately to mind....
