N. Korean spy ship to be shown to public in Kagoshima, Tokyo
KAGOSHIMA, May 1 Kyodo - A North Korean spy ship that sank in the East China Sea in December 2001 after an exchange of fire with Japanese vessels will be exhibited in Kagoshima on May 17-18 and in Tokyo in June, the Japan Coast Guard said Thursday.
The exhibits will include items found on the ship after it was raised and taken to Japan, such as some weapons, a small boat and a water scooter for landing, coast guard officials said.
The exhibition in Kagoshima will be held at the private dockyard where the ship is now and the number of visitors limited to 3,000. Tickets can be obtained by postcard applications to the Japan Coast Guard Association's southern Kyushu regional headquarters, on a first come first served basis, the officials said

I just called . Tickets are chosen by a lottery system . NO PICTURES ALLOWED ! Just what I figured . I recall a few years ago one of my fave music artists XTC , came over to promote their new album . They'd come from a promotion swing in America ( various record huge chain record stores ) where they signed people's records , chatted and posed for photos . In Japan , one could only get a store bought CD signed and that was that . No photos or videos , and nothing else could be signed , etc ... Hurry hurry move on . Typical . Can't have TOO much freedom or fun doncha know .

Re #6
Why restrict the access to the exhibit ? If it is so restrictive, they might as well scrap the exhibit. Is it just a bureaucratic reflex or something else ?

There are ways around the "NO PICTURES ALLOWED" thingy.
I'll see about June in Tokyo.
