It would be much better if for some people to become plumbers, carpenters, etc and go into business for themselves and become rich rather than get a useless liberal arts degree.

For some or maybe for many, yes it would be better. But a true liberal arts education has great value in itself.

I agree with you there. A good liberal arts degree is a great thing to have and should be acquired on the way to graduate level studies.

Even a scientist has a great advantage if he can use the English language well, and be conversant on subjects outside of his narrow discipline. More so yet for those going into the corporate world.
