One of my brothers works at Patch Barracks in Stuttgart. He is a civilian DoD employee, been there about 23 years now. I heard about this a couple of months ago and he said yes its true but had been in the works for a while. Was not really brought on by the current Germany/France/Iraq brouhaha. Some of it was economic decision as the bases need lots more money as they are so old but there were "other reasons" and there would be more to come. That was more info than he usually gives me. When we talk about world events I usually get the old "it I tell you I'd have to kill you" reply.
There is a fair size group of "Nazi wantabe's", mostly younger people. There also are alot of Muslims. I was there in 1993 for my nephew's wedding and there were alot of problems with Turkish muslims. Alot of street crime, etc. Nobody was happy there were so many Turkish muslims there.
Not true. Most of the bases were "comandeered" WWII German bases, like Patch Barracks were I was stationed.
