SACRAMENTO (AP) - A tiny freshwater shrimp that was identified as a species just three years ago will be studied for potential protection under the Endangered Species Act, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said Tuesday.
The midvalley fairy shrimp lives only in vernal pools in the Central Valley's Contra Costa, Fresno, Madera, Merced, Sacramento, San Joaquin and Solano counties.

Another sub-specious listing?
Time for the NAR to sue again, eh? I wonder if the lawyers are playing these up to get the work?

Which means, of course, that if you have any vernal pools on your property, you had better douse them with pesticides now. You wouldn't want to get kicked off your land by a Fairy Shrimp infestation.

Wildlife that neither provides a discernable benefit to the ecosystem nor has any "charm" factor does not deserve Endangered Species protection.

let's see: What with a biblical flood, droughts, current floods, dust bowls, locusts, forest fires, and a wide variety of other soil-and-vegetation destroying events, how the HELL do these people think the world has survived without THEM?
(Excuse me, I have to go set some ant traps before they make that illegal, too.)

Fairy shrimp... isn't that what Sea Monkeys were? I know that they came dehydrated. That's probably not the right word, but you added water and they "hatched" at some point.
Maybe it was those shrimp-things from Mono Lake instead.

"
Fairy Shrimp"?
Aren't those native to San Franciso?
