In August 1982, he received orders to drill instructor duty at MCRD San Diego, Calif., where he served with 3rd Recruit Training Battalion.

OMG! I just missed getting screamed at by this man by about 3 months! :-)

Congratulations, SgtMaj Estrada!!

Please take note.....THIS Marine is a Parris Island alumni!

The Commandant has chosen well.....

My God bless and lead him and the Corps on a righteous path..and keep them all safe.

At the Core, it's STILL the Corps!!

If I'm not mistaken, Estrada is the first Marine from the aviation community to serve as SgtMaj of the Marine Corps.

I graduated from MCRD San Diego on April 20, 1984 with platoon 3014, 3rd battalion as a Pfc. I remember him as being a fair and extremely self disciplined individual. Semper fi, Sergeant Major!

I was on the boat with this guy for a couple hours!! He was with the Coral Sea off Iran the same time as me, and I visited his ship once to deliver a Sailor to fix one of their copier machines and drop off mail!

Me and that SgtMaj were on the same boat once at the same time while I was still a 2o year old Cpl!

I went to the Coral Sea when he was on it back in 1980 to deliver mail and a sailor to fix something.

To be honest, that is a higher honor than being on officer in some quarters. I'm jealous.

Actually, I didnt see any Marins when we went to that ship, we had to stay near the aircraft and just off load mail and our passenger...but, we were on the same boat once! :)

I knew a LOT of the Marine leadership in these last wars after 9/11, Trautman, Frick, Mattis; my friend from the apartment I live in, his son got his picture with Ollie North! So, you can say i almost knew Ollie too! :0

Ok, Ill stop there...(ouch! Stop!)
