After several failed attempts by Senate Republicans to break a Democratic filibuster, it's starting to look as if Miguel Estrada may never make it to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. The controversial Bush nominee may have to settle for the strangest of consolation prizes: his name plastered on bumper stickers in the 2004 election.

My point was that the RATS recognize that their position is unprecedented and politically dangerous. There was speculation last week that they would allow no votes on any circuit court nominee. Sutton's confirmation demonstrates that they cannot hold their caucus together on a total nuclear strategy.

If you look at the bottom of the article, you will see that the piece was syndicated by the Washington Post writers' group.

My apologies, thanks for the help.

This embracing of identity politics would certainly not be good in the long run.

The Dems will easily reverse any damage suffered by the Estrada debacle by upping the anti on some other issue - nobody does racial pandering like they do. On the other hand, the GOP is not in a position to outbid them without risking their base. Its a losing game for us.

The GOP needs to make its case based upon Estrada's professional qualifications only, as they have for the most part, and leave conclusions re: the democrat's motives to the voters.

WE come a long way from the old conservatives of the fifties and WE deserve the credit. These two factors can not be over emphasised. Democrats work on race we work on merit.

Fantastic news. Thanks a million for adding it to this thread. I think what you stated might be part of the reason Bush is polling ahead of RAT candidates in NY & CA, two states with very large hispanic populations.......not to mention the huge electoral votes.

TX, NY & CA........RATs are soiling their panties at the thought of losing all those states.

This sounds like union leaders going along with some REALLY LEFTIST stuff, which their voters don't support. This is the kind of stuff which creates Reagan (Bush) Democrats.

Good points you've made on all three posts. I especially think you nailed it with the last sentence above.

My son in college predicts a huge Bush win in 04......reason being ALL his liberal friends say they are voting Bush.

The dems won't get away with this, they already lost hispanic votes but Estrada BETTER be passed through and soon or the backlash for the dems will be more horrific as their majority status.

Maybe a crack in the dam? Let's hope. The nearer 04 comes along the more pressure.

as someone said, the biggest crack in the dam was the fact that this was a VOTE, not a CLOTURE vote!

Sutton's confirmation means that several RATS in their caucus are getting very skittish about the filibuster strategy. They are playing with fire, and they know it.

I agree. Notice on deport breakdown below that Nelson and Finestain voted yea. Also note the non-votes from current RAT pres wannabe's.

Agrred, agreed, agreed. Notice on deport's breakdown that Nelson (FL) and Finestain (CA) voted yea. Notice also that notable Sen RAT pres wannabe's didn't bother registering a vote that they would have to defend, one way or another.

Bush has a lot more in store for the anti-Catholic, anti-Hispanic bigots of the DNC. No devout Roman Catholic Hispanic will EVER be allowed by the democrats to run for national office or be appointed to a judgeship. I cannot wait to see what bombs Dubya plans to drop.

This kind of politics is as despicable as anything the Revs. Jesse and Al spew. YOu can't use vile methods when it chooses your fancy just because you think you have the 'high ground' in an issue. It helps in the destruction of everything this country was built on and feeds the monster that will consume us all if we aren't careful.

this was a VOTE, not a CLOTURE vote!

Bring on the rest, slowly and surely. Nothing like steady, unending ever increasing pressure to get results.

What they don't realize is that the "hispanics" are more conservative than assumed. I hate to paint with a broad brush, but they work very hard, are extremely family oriented, love the U.S for the opportunity that it gives them, and are staunch Catholics who have no tolerance for same sex marriage or abortions (to a lesser degree).

You are using far too broad a brush. I truly don't know about the Cuban people - but I do know about the Mexicans who have come here illegally in the last few years and who will be made citizens by hook or by crook by our President. Family-oriented - some - not all by any means. Staunch Catholics - some - not all - love for the US - for the largest majority - it is the love the US dollar and the freebies we give them. Nothing more and nothing less. Just not the case. Respect for our laws or the American citizens 0 - may 10%.

Great article, and Bush, should he pull Hispanics to the Republican Party, will make it the Majority Party for a generation.

Be careful careful what you wish for!!! When you bring in people as a 'group' or 'community' you will to have issues for that 'group' or 'community' and the needs adn demands will continue to get bigger and bigger.

AS I said, let's bring in Americans who love this country, regardless of color, or national origin - to do anything else is suicidal.
