Ospreys are one of the few bird species that mate for life. The female depends upon the male to raise the chicks. I suppose the chicks won't make it.

Where are one of those drunken, deranged player attacking fans when you really need one?

Witnesses told investigators that Ryu threw several balls at the osprey.... Other players on the field rushed to assist the injured osprey. So why didn't these other players stop Ryu when he started throwing balls at the bird? Obviously some of the other players saw him doing this from the start.

He was told more than once to quit aiming for the bird, according to another article.

"Hat's off" to the Daytona Cubs, who took action against this cretin only after the story became public.

Most likely they had seen him pitch and were astounded when he actually hit something that small.

Uhm, it became public as soon as it happened. Stick to the facts.

The day after the incident became public, Ryu was removed from the Daytona Cubs' team bus and demoted. The facts: They waited to act, and then acted in haste, yanking him from the team bus. Why didn't they demote him immediately, or suspend him? Guess they wanted to see whether there would be any outrage first. Truly a principled bunch.

The osprey's dead -
And even worse
I'm going to put
My thoughts in verse !
The poor hawk did not
Hear the call:
When Ryu said:
"Here : Catch this ball ! "
The missile flew
Swift through the air
And beaned the osprey
In its lair.
Oh ! What a shame
To waste such skill !
Too bad he didn't
Aim at Hill !!

This kid got a huge signing bonus (million-six, IIRC) from the Chicago Cubs, and shows his gratitude by killing the farm team's mascot in front of an audience.
Imagine the discipline problem he's going to be later on, if he's this cocky now. They might be wise to consider the bonus as "money down the drain" and just ship his ass back to Korea.

Deport the moron.Boy talk about a quandrary for the Left. Here we are practically forced by law to be sensitive about other people's cultures, yet we must make sure that the punishment for killing a bird is much greater than murdering an unborn child. Instead of "deporting the moron", or demoting him to the "Lugnuts" team, he should undergo Ritalin medications while undergoing psychological behavioral modifications under the direction of a Save the Whales transgendered Yoga master - then he will learn that animals are not under man's dominion, but instead will believe like most Americans that animals are objects of veneration and worship.

Somewhere you missed the studies that indicate abuse of humans often begins with abuse of animals.

Sllllipppery Sloooope!
Shouldn't the only thing being investigates is whether he had a hunting license?
Last I checked, we eat millions and millions of birds.
If it needs protecting, put it in a zoo.

Red herring. We pass laws to protect animals from abuse for an ordered society. The guy wasn't hunting. With his fast ball, he was aiming to take the bird out.
btw, ospreys are one of the few spieces that find a mate and mate for life. The female depends on the male for raising the chicks. They take turns chasing away predators and protecting while the others hunt.
If you can't figure out protection of animals from animals with much bigger brains with the capacity to wipe species off the face of the planet, then I surely can't help you. In the end, it isn't the non-humans we are trying to protect. We are trying to save our own butts. Maybe you'll understand that. Then again, maybe not.

Good one!
another reason to drop baseball and go to
cricket, they bounce the ball to the batter
like we do to small children.
oops they might hit a worm that way.
To: nanomid
He threw numerous balls at it before he hit.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission criminally charged former pitcher Jae-kuk Ryu for injuring an osprey Perhaps he was just hungry. Weren't there any DOGS available???
(oh yeah...well "Kuk Ryu" too!)
