I hate giving credit to Democrats, but Lieberman's is pretty good today:
Ladies. Gentlemen. Halperin.

200 words. One could do a lot of damage in 200 words... But before I make passing reference to Lieberman's Irish-catholic roots, allow me, in the best tradition of the Note, to begin by simply stating the obvious.

That being: While each campaign was given explicit instructions for their submissions (200 words, in by pub date, no a cappella submissions accepted,) all of us are also operating under certain unwritten rules.

And while the vast majority of the Note's politically savvy readers already know what those are, for the benefit of our Washington Times subscribers, allow me to use the first of our five pre-debate missives to make those plain:

1) Absolutely no real debate strategy will be unveiled in this forum.
2) Ditto debate positioning.
3) Feints will probably abound.
4) But if so, most will be absurdly transparent.
5) None of these rules apply to Kucinich.

So with that said, let me close by saying that not enough has been said about the Dixie Chicks; for my money, nothing's better than reality TV; and something tells me that come tomorrow Craig Smith will rethink his suggestion that I just write whatever comes into my head.

—Jano Cabrera, for the Lieberman campaign.

Love the zinger at Kerry.

Edwards should have called me. I could have helped him draft a message that met the guidelines. Something like...

I have absolutely no chance of ever becoming the President of the United States.

(and only 14 words!)
