OOOOhhhhhh - we just threw away all of our heritage and caved in to the blackmailers! By creating a state flag modeled on the First National flag of the Confederacy! How can we trach our heritage that way! Oh, horrors!

Strawman argument, lugsoul.

As I stated before, it is not my heritage as my ancestors did not have a dog in that fight.

What I see as a third party is that you, lugsoul, in this very thread on Post 106, equated the honorable symbol of the Confederate soldier with the symbol of the National Socialist German Workers Party that was responsible for the genocide of millions of Jews and Slavs and 40 million deaths in Europe over all.

It is not that you are trading one Confederate symbol for another.

It is the reason that you give for doing so.

You could state that the Battle Flag should not be used because we should not mix the honor of soldiers in battle with political issues. If you advocated such a position, you might win some support from the other side.

But, no. You, in Post 106, equated the Battle Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia with the Nazi Swastika itself.

It seems to me that many Southerners are not hostile to your position because you "are throwing away all of (their) heritage".

They are hostile because you are defecating on what should be the most honorable symbol of the Confederacy......the non-political flag that the common Southern soldier flew in battle.

Co-opted by race-baiting hate-mongers was it?

As I have documented, the Christian Cross and the Stars and Stripes have a vastly greater degree of co-optation by the white racist groups. The Confederate Battle Flag, however, has now been copted by the race-baiting hate-mongers of the Al Sharpton variety.

You complained earlier in this thread that some people "allowed the Confederate Battle Flag" to be used by hate-mongers.

Well, in this thread, many people are not allowing you to use it in this manner.

You are the King of Strawmen, Polybius. YOU equated the flag with the Star of David - and I said it was more akin to the swaztika - a symbol whose meaning had been skewed by its use. Get your facts right. If you want to debate my positions, at least use my positions instead of trying to ascribe positions to me.

Defecating? You are full of crap.

Anyway - no one here is "allowing" or "not allowing", to use your words, me to do anything.

As for the Stars and Stripes and the Christian Cross, there should also be protestations against the use of those symbols for the wrong reasons. Interesting that there is not.

I do not denigrate the battle flag. I don't necessarily agree with your opinion that it should be exalted over other symbols, but I do not denigrate it. The people who denigrate it are those who use it as a symbol of something OTHER THAN those who fought and died under it. And, while you can argue till the cows come home that OTHER symbols are also used that way - the battle flag is used that way, with the effect that if you ask folks outside of the South, and especially outside of the U.S., what that flag represents, you aren't gonna here much about the proud Confederate soldier. It is not for NO reason that you see hate groups in Germany sporting the battle flag.

I did not say, anywhere, that the flag is evil. I did say that some GEORGIANS, not outsiders, but GEORGIANS, have seen this flag used both officially and unofficially as a symbol of the two-tiered system that prevailed for so long in this state. If you can't see that those people have reactions to the flag somewhat different than reverence for its earliest use, then you must simply be incapable of seeing any view other than your own.
