Al Franken decided to spend 20 minutes screaming at Alan Colmes for not shouting down HannityAnybody think Hannity won't be extending an invitation to Franken @ 3:01 pm EST today to come on the show and take up Colmes' slack?

But Colmes doesn't shout at anybody...unlike the other liberals, Colmes actually discusses issues, without resorting to shouting over everyone with their latest talking points, like a tape recorder, with the volume ever-increasing. Which is why, although I generally agree with Hannity & disagree with Colmes, Colmes is the one I'd rather have over for dinner. We just wouldn't discuss politics!

Hannity may have the correct side but is always overmatched when it comes to debating the issue. He can't adapt. He needs a script.

It doesn't help that Hanity is outmatched by Alan.what? i have NEVER seen that happen. and i watch nightly.
My wife and I have been discussing this the past few weeks. We've both noticed Hannity just isn't debating well, at least not lately. Last week, for example, Mario Cuomo simply ran Hannity over. Maybe Hannity's tired from the three-hour radio show?

I think his point is that Colmes has a basic concept of how to debate, whereas Hannity runs about three plays.
1 - Praise Conservative Guest (or Reagan)
2 - Read (R) talking points
3 - Ignore Liberal Guest and shout at him without refuting his arguements.
The most painful thing is that Hannity is 99% right on everything, but his delivery is so blunt and clumsy that he nearly always misses easy to shoot down lines. Colmes is like warmed over death, but he at least talks to the guests to develop leads without leaping right in to the attack.
If they had a sharper liberal on there, I think that the show would be a lot more interesting, and Sean would have to evolve out of his rut. He could really be hitting them out of the park if he could just bring himself to listen and refute better, rather than hit the 'attack' button every time.

"Shirley" you jest.

'Cept for Colmes apparently... Colmes is a good debater even if he is wrong. Hannity is a terrible debater but usually right (besides the Lott issue). I love the way you put this. I usually agree with Hannity, but can't stand the way he says it. Must be a Jersey thing.

I really like Alan Colmes! I disagree with many of his points, but he does present the other side with grace.
Dr. Dobson has said on his show, that he likes him as well.
We can have honest disagreements with a person's position and still repect them.
To: Steel Wolf
i guess since the war stuff started, i can agree with you that Sean has lost effectiveness, and i commented to that effect to my husband. Once he gets irritated he can no longer refute the point effectively. But, i do take issue that Alan outmatches him, because he is not a persuasive debater either, by any stretch. i like alan, only because he is one of the few liberals i can stomach. and he will take on the more absurd extreme views on his side.

I've watched his argument style for a while, he picks out a word or phrase of his guest's and attacks that rather than the point of what was being said. It is a common liberal tactic, not unlike defining the meaning of the word "is."

i didn't see the show with Cuomo, but i do agree that he has deteriorated some lately in his debating skills. but to say that Colmes overmatches him is ludicrous, IMO.

I love Hannity too. But, I have to agree with you, that at times he relies more on emotions than presenting a good argument. And he never, never, concedes that he may be wrong!
I have seen Alan admitt that the conservatives have a good point, but, I have never heard Hannity admitt that the liberals have a good point. And the fact is, that at times they do!
To: William McKinley
I don't see why Franken isn't seen as a more reasoned voice of the liberal point of view? He's intelligent, articulate, and he's a well known author. He's got a lot to contribute, and we should remember why we came to know him in the first place.
Because ... um... he played a silly, effeminate personal counselor on Saturday Night Live, in the years where it was even less funny than it is now...
Huh? Is the left so devoid of people to defend the cause that they have to push this clod to the front lines?
Stuart, listen up. Find a mirror, and repeat after me.
You're not good enough.
You're not smart enough.
People don't like you.

I TIVO'd the F&F show this morning.. during the discussion of the incident Brian said to keep an eye on the DRUDGE site for more details. Steve made the comment to Brian that " you jumped up and went over and beat him up!!" during the second segment of the show.
