He "lost it" is a cop-out, in my opinion. If there truly are humans who have no control over spells of rage, they should be identified and locked in a zoo with the other animals.

A person who is violent toward a spouse simply knows this is effective control. Not much violence required after a while; the threat of knowing that person will act out is enough.

Oh yea, that's good extremist thinking--lets just throw everyone in a zoo who doesn't fit narrowly into your concept of normality. There are lots of ways to express rage. Some people do it by manipulation and deceit--perhaps they'll be next to be tossed into locked storage. You see, when you start down that road, don't be surprised if one day YOU will get fingered by someone who thinks you don't fit into the normal mode.
