I think its more than that. Too many people invested too much in them - turning their brains off for 4 years, repeating that everything was great until they had no choice but to continue on that track or admit they were wrong (very wrong), for a very long time.

People sometimes find it easier to validate their bad behavior over and over rather than admit they are wrong.

I'm glad I'm not like that.

We all have snares we've ensnared ourselves in, doesn't make that right, nor the effort to remove one's self from such snares any less important. May we all have enough heart beats to do so.
