Commercially successful free, competitive journalism is inherently anticonservative because it garners attention by superficiality and by negativity towards the people/institutions which make America work. The superficiality of journalism is illustrated by the orgy of coverage of Jessica Lynch's rescue--a delightful story, but in context of the moment not an important one. It got as much coverage as the destruction of the only theoretically credible defense blocking our way to Baghdad, which occurred at the same time.
Unlike the other news outlets, Fox News makes an effort to balance out the negativity--but it's as superficial as any of them.
No doubt that Jessica's story went beyond the pale of reasonable media coverage; but it seemed to reflect to me, anyway, that the media perhaps underestimating it's audience (!) felt compelled to put a 'down-home' story and 'face' to this war. . .and the competition began for that audience. . .
That said, and presidential titles aside, cannot imagine, 'life without Fox News!'
