Quelle surprise!

The captain has been arrested. Aluminum rods, destined for China...all mentioned. Not many details yet.

From where?
French Freighter intercepted by Germans!....
Fallout between Franch and Germany?
So many questions!
To: seamole
Now ain't this just interesting! Can't wait to hear this explanation---ah, BS!

Maybe Germany still has a shred of decency within it, and is finally going to come around to the right side? If this ship thing is a big deal, it could help create a rift between France and Germany.

Of course, they are sending this to Iran. The recent De Villepen trip to Iran no doubt solidified this deal.
I simply adore how peaceful the Frogs are! Nuclear proliferation will surely make that troubled region more
tranquil.
The Frogs are disgraceful! Every person in that country should feel profound shame!

Why would Germans intercept ships in Egypt?

I heard this, too.
At this point, it isn't clear at all, what is going on.
Is it "nuclear material" or aluminum rods?
Is the material owned by interests from Germany (originating company) or France (shipper) or China (presumed receiver) or N. Korea (broker)?
Where does Egypt fit in, if at all? What jurisdiction does Germany have, in an Egyptian port, over a French vessel?
It appears Germany is trying to do the right thing (or to appear so).
