Since the end of the draft, I think jury service is the only time that our government demands a citizen's personal services. But, for some people even that is apparently too much to ask.

My God, you're undoubtedly watching all this international coverage like I am and you must be seeing what life is like for so many in this world. And you feel like a serf? I don't know what to tell you to make you feel better about it all.

And I can only guess what most judges would tell you if you responded to a jury summons with that explanation.
