I’m confused. All other reports identified Jenkins as from Alabama. Perhaps he was born in Alabama, but had moved to California?

In any event, his is an amazing story of heroism:

Repton (Alabama) soldier dies (Troy Jenkins, hero who threw himself on bomb to save unit and children)

Rest in peace, Sergeant Jenkins.
