The biggest shame to me in this great country built on capitalism. The younger generations are ruining it because they are cheaters, lazy, and CHEAP. Why should we tip waitresses, there's no law that says we have to, we do it because of respect.

The loss of respect for the really good artist is rapidly changing the scenery of the music industry. If you want to hear any of the true old time Country and Western artist anymore, you have to go to Branson, Missouri,sp. They have great new hits, but you never hear them on the radio anymore, a real shame. They never go on tour, you have to drive to see them. Same thing with the Stars in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the price to get in these shows is no bargain.

I don't see how you just say good bye to Rock-N-Roll, every type of music is being raped by this epidemic of people being too cheap to pay for legally recorded copies. For those who complain that an album has only one good song in the entire package, shame on the artist for ripping you off. It's a shame that singles are not pushed like in the past. I guess that's capitalism at its' best and worst sides. Wouldn't everyone like to have a ONE HIT WONDER to live on for the rest of their life?

I got just a little off track from the main subject, cheaters, lazy, and cheap. If you don't have to pay for really good music, it dies as we know it. If you can steal music, why not shoplift, rob banks, and kill people.

The real disgrace is the loss of respect for someones hard work and effort. I'm sure 99.9% of the people stealing this music would scream and raise holy hell if there way of making a living was stolen from them by someone who is too lazy and cheap to buy their product legally.

There are an infinite number of business models that do not exist today because you can't protect the product. One more will make no difference, and the demise of the record label indicates no moral defects. In fact, there will be numerous benefits.

Before there were record labels and the DMCA, murder, robbery, and shoplifting were not rampant. I don't think they will become rampant after record labels disappear.

We can't wast time with what "should be." Capitalizm is all about what IS, and then figuring out how to make money on it.

Guns don't kill people. People kill people.

Software doesn't copy music and movies. People copy music and movies.

This is your brain. This is your brain on liberal, it's always somebody else's fault pap. Get it?

You law and order types crack me up.

Look. I don't know how to break this to you since so many of you have such and pollyanish view of the the information age, but copying and computers are inseperable. Copying and computers are like peanut butter and jelly. It's always been that way, and it's always GONNA be that way. OK? The techies that created the "information superhighway" created it like that, and with swapping in mind. Believe me, the program the first programmer wrote after getting his hands on the first disk drive was a copy program. Everybody has and investment in copying. Why the hell would you invest in DSL or Cable modem 2 or 3 years ago? Investing in more bandwidth at that price is worthwile for just two applications: online gaming, and swapping. Computers, storage devices, and the Internet have all evolved to the point that they are at now based on the strength of swapping: From the software swapping that's benn going on since the 80's to the more recent swapping of mp3's and now movies gathering data has always been a BIG part of computing.

Everybody has a big investment, software vendors, computer manufacturer's, disc drive makers, Internet companies, and the list goes on.

None of these are the reason that it will continue. As I have stated, "us" techies like it that way it why it will continue, and why eventually media industries will have to evolve if they wish to stay viable.

And how much respect do record companies earn?
