I have broad agreement with the point that you make. The two quotes you comment on are mine and not Kirk's. Your comments are reasoned and I can only offer that mine were made to concretely make the distinction that conservatism from the outset has never been confined by the root of the verb used by the French to describe the thought of Burke. Indeed it has had a full range of principles attached to it.
One of my recent threads was about Hayek's Chapter Four from The Constitution of Liberty where Hayek goes over just what slow grown items of worth we are preserving as conservatives.
