IRS officials said although no such firm exists, the refund check was issued anyway.

Exactly. A scam artist asks them for $500,000, supposedly the biggest refund request of the year, and they approve it without second thought.

Who says crime doesn't pay?

Crystal Foster stole $500,000 from the American taxpayers. The idiot judge who presided at her trial ordered her to give back half the money, not all, but half. She was ordered to serve about 3 years (but will be eligible for parole after completing one-third of the sentence). If she serves the entire 3 years, she'll "earn" $80,000 a year. The House should impeach that moron judge!
