Blix Charges U.S. Played Dirty
During an interview for a yet to be broadcast BBC2 program (The Road to War, the Inside Story to be aired next Saturday), Blix homed in on what he suggests were purposeful leaks and outright inventions by the U.S. to garner support for its invasion of the dictatorship.
"We have heard about the alleged contract between Iraq and Niger about the import of some 500 tons of ... uranium. When the IAEA [International Atomic Energy Agency] got the contract they had no great difficulty in finding out that this was a fake, falsified simply," Blix said.
Blix added, "I think that is very, very disturbing. Who falsifies this? And is it not disturbing that the intelligence agencies that should have all the technical means at their disposal did not discover that this was falsified?"
The U.N. weapons inspector also charged in the interview that the U.S. leaked stories about an Iraqi military drone and illegal cluster bombs in an effort to embarrass his agency:
"At that time the U.S. was very eager to sway the votes of the Security Council and they felt that stories about these things would be useful to have and they let it out. Thereby they tried to hurt us a bit and say that we had suppressed this. It was not the case and it was a bit unfair and hurt us, and I felt a little displeased about it. But you know this is a rough and tough game, and I don't think that we really felt desolate about it."
"I think it has been one of the disturbing elements that so much of the intelligence on which the capitals built their case seems to have been shaky and there are some flagrant cases, Blix added.
Meanwhile, White House spokesman Ari Fleischer responded to the Blix charges Tuesday by saying, "I think it's unfortunate if Hans Blix would in any way criticize the United States at this juncture. The United States is working with Iraqis to build a new country for them. And I think that would just be unfortunate if his position today is to criticize the United States."
The Administration has fielded its own inspectors to seek out Saddams weapons of mass destruction and has signaled that it has no use for Blix at this juncture.
For his part, Blix said that he is ready, willing and able to take up the WMD search again in Iraq if the Security Council gives the go-ahead. However, he qualified that he would demand "independence" from the U.S. military and the authority to go anywhere in the country and interview any Iraqi specialists. "I can't be on a leash," he advised.
Under the terms of U.N. resolutions, U.N. inspectors - not U.S. inspectors -- must verify progress in Iraq's disarmament before U.N. sanctions can be suspended or lifted. The lifting of the sanctions is a high priority for the Bush administration.

Already unpopular in Washington for his perceived failure to render a tougher assessment of Saddams disarmament efforts, U.N. weapons inspector Dr. Hans Blix has reportedly been badmouthing the U.S. again on the eve of his report to the world body on his readiness to resume inspections in Coalition-controlled Iraq.

And Kofi says blah blah blah. And Chirac says blah. Schroeder even reported saying blah blah blah.
"I can't be on a leash," he advised.
Got any "leaches" Reg? I can't be on a leash," Blix replied"
Blix sounds like Orson Wells after taking a few deep breaths of helium mixed with the laughing gas the dentists use. He is a raving lunatic. Very entertaining.
Now he is insisting being reinjected as the Chief Weapons Inspector in Iraq (again) under the auspices of the (pukey) Ununited Nations - and to TOP IT OFF - demands CARTE BLANCHE even over the authority of the U.S. Military authority.
Get us out of the U.N.!
Would but that he had done so much with Saddam and a war might have been averted.
No doubt the event unfolded over the past month have put a hugh dent in his (upcoming) book sales.
He must be deeply, deeply saddened over this (his book is not totally BOGUS and FICTION!)

Mr. Blind Baghdad Blix Magoo.
The war is turning out many more benefits over it not having ever been prosecuted against Iraq.
UNBELIEVEABLE garbage is getting ready to hit the fan on France, Germany, and Russia.
Germany has been caught accepting bribes from Iraq if it toed the line with opposing any U.S.-led war.
The chips are only beginning to fall.
He must of meant capitalists. His comment was changed. It does not make sense as written.
Nitrous oxide, IIRC.
Great catch - capitals ~vs~ capitalists.
Indeed & the chip is now hitting the fan!
Newsflash to Blix;
No one could possibly embarrass you and your agency more than you have already embrarrssed yourself....EVEN IF THEY TRIED.
