Should I be surprised how many posters on this thread do not believe in a free market system or in property rights?

"In the bad old days, every time I went into a restaurant I was forced to inhale the effluence of nicotene addicts. And now I'm not!"

Noone forced you to go into the restaurant. That is the point.

The point is that every restaurant had at least one smoker poisoning the air of the majority under the canard that their personal freedom was more important than mine. I had a choice, inhale your addiction or stop going to restaurants.

Society in this country is increasingly rejecting that silly notion and has simply asked smokers to go outside when the tremors of their addiction get too violent.

Seems fair enought to me, but then again, I'm not an addict...

p.s. If you want to smoke wherever you want, try going to the one country where people smoke everywhere - I'm sure you have a lot in common - with the French...

Why pass laws because you are a puss?

Its the American Way. Legislating others personal habits is practically the national past-time.

Not having to inhale someone else's filthy addiction!

I bet YOU have some habits that WE would find disgusting!

but other people should enjoy the freedom of not having to smell it.

There has to be room on this earth for all of us. Just because you don't agree with someone's lifestyle, that doesnt make you right in wanting to change it. Live and let live.

If you do not like what others are doing, go else where. Why pass laws because you are a puss?

Thank you!

The reasoning for this law was that workers at these establisments have no choice but inhale the SHS

WOW, we're forcing people to work at bars? That's a case for the ACLU.

AND I SINCERELY HOPE YOU ANTIFREEDOM ANTI SMOKING NAZIS ENJOY IT WHEN THE TOBACCO COMPANIES GO BANKRUPT AND YOUR LOCAL TAXES SKYROCKET.

Well, they tried prohibition back in the 20's. And we all know the history behind THAT.

If tobacco is such a killer, why has it been a legal commodity for hundreds of years? Why hasn't it been pulled from the market long before this?

I grew up in a steel mill town, and the air stunk from the pipes. But we didn't go on a rampage to shut them down, (the government saw to that, and put thousands of people out of work). The steel mills put money in people's wallets and food on the tables.

People who don't like other people who use a legal commodity, should just hang out with like-minded people and not be around adults who choose to smoke. How hard can this be? Why do we have so many people who want to "rule the world?"

Everytime the politicians come by on their neighborhood tours, close. Throw everyone out and close until the election is over.

What kills me is: politicians are US. They are just people like US that decide to run for office. The one with the most money wins.

These people in Congress and the Senate and every state lawmaker is just like US. We all could decide to run for office.

The lawmakers are not Gods. And the ones who do run, seem to learn early on how to promise the moon to their constituents, then put the screws to them once they are elected.

I hope, and I really sincerely mean this, that the tobacco companies all file Chapter 11. Then all of these whiney do gooders will have something to really complain about when the taxes in their state triple. It will be the poetic justice needed to shut them up once and for all.

"Having a no-smoking area in a restaurant is like having a no-peeing area in a pool. Eventually, everyone end up swimming in someone else's urine..."(Plato)

That line is SO old! Time for an oil change, bubba.

This is a conservative website,right?

Conservatives believe in a free market economy, right?

Conservatives believe less government is the way to go,right?

Well where are all the liberals coming from every time smoking is discussed ? It's a puzzlement!

Phillip Morris is already begging for the last court action to be overturned. They stated that if they are forced to pay this, it will bankrupt them, and then they will not be able to pay the States the Tobacco Settlement Money.

And we ALL know what most states are using this money for: TO BALANCE THEIR DAMN BUDGETS. Where WOULD they be if it weren't for the smokers!

It's the same old song and dance. Everytime a Conservative doesn't like something, they turn RINO. I have been in here for two years, and I have never seen the likes of the RINO's that come out in Free Republic to bash the smokers.

Mind boggling.

Any conservative or capitalist that thinks smoking bans are legal, justified or are right are not conservatives or capitalist. I ask you, where do you stop this slippery slope? What's next Big Mac's, the Atkins diet, going out is the cold with out your coat on? How about running with scissors, can we still do this, or should this be banned because it may hurt someone. If you fascist a$$h0les think people should have the opportunity to go into a smoke free establishment go open up your own non-smoking place where you can all sit around in bubbles eating carrots and lettuce trying to pat each other on the back on how "good you made the world" while trying not to lose your place when reading "It takes a Village". Freaking idiots!

Hear! Hear!

WRONG!

I am NOT responsible for your health! YOU ARE!

Making me responsible for other peoples health ("a healthier nation") is nothing short of communism and slavery.

That statement didn't even make any sense...slavery...what are you talking about?...And I'm not asking you to be worried about my health - read my comment again.

Don't worry about replying...I'm not interested in hearing from people who are narrowminded and have their heads stuck up their ass.
